Sisters, Lydia and Maya, were born in December with their triplet sister Kamilla. While delivering triplets is difficult enough, Lydia and Maya’s case add a level of complexity. They are conjoined twins joined at the liver and chest. Due to health complications, it became necessary for the doctors to separate the twins at only 8 days old.
Doctors in Switzerland separated the twins during a five-hour operation at a hospital in Bern, Switzerland on December 10. While they were hopeful, doctors were prepared for the worst, possibly in the death of both girls.
Thankfully, surgery went off without complications and the conjoined twins were separated successfully. The sisters are recovering well.
